Another weekend..

Another weekend, came and passing by...

Watched 3 movies in span of 20 hrs... Read about 250 pages, skipped three meals, read dumbly Spanish formula 1 race commentary on website (not having TV that was the best option)...

So, that sums up my weekend here... Sunday is turning out to be pretty sunny as against the forecast. Initially I thought that the forecast in smaller countries are better than larger countries due to the difference in sheer geographical area to be covered by the forecasting system. Well, it seems Switzerland has its own reasons to have "not-so-accurate-forcasts". Perhaps being hilly is one.. i don't know.

I have started contributing to wikipedia now. It gives me just another option to while away my time. Today I realized another facet of the global village we are becoming. I updated something at some point in time, and within 5-7 minutes, my entry was not listed in the last 500 updates. That really shows the popularity of the site, in addition to haw many people are contributing to the site... Interesting...

Suddenly I am liking devotional and slow music more than anything. Today morning I repeating a particular "song" about 4-times before switching to another one. Perhaps the softness embedded in the music was attracting me.

I hope she receives her flowers in time. Will love to hear her after she receives the bouquet. :)

Hi! am about to go through the same process of visa. My employer is in Winterthur and will be coming on L permit. Had few question, can you pl throw some light on it.
1) Can an L permit remains a L permit or eventually a B permit can be applied for.
2) What is cost of living in specificaly Winterthur.( Basic).
3) What is your personal experience about staying in Winterthur.
4 )How is it with Language? Swiss German has a different dialect. How easy / difficult it is.
5) It was interesting to go through your blog.

Thanking you,

sudhir

Hey Sudhir...

As you can see for sure, my experience with Spouse Visa processing is pretty old now. 2-3 years have passed by since I was in the middle of that. I am hoping that they have changed for better. But, you never know. Good luck. Take all my answers from that perspective, my knowledge could well be outdated.

1. L permit will always remain an L permit unless ur employer applies for a B for you.

2,3. Winterthur is a very small town from Indian Standards. Size and population both. But its one of the largest cities in Switzerland. Its peaceful and quite. Works as a perfect suburb to Zurich, so u'll find a lot of people living in Winterthur and working in Zurich.

In general, Switzerland is costlier than any other country that I have visited. But, the salaries are equally better. So, basically you dont feel the pain. Unless one is a saving-freak, he wont feel the costs.

4. Its great if you know the local language, but Winterthur has quite a lot of population who can understand and speak English. Most shops have people who can help u in English, though I doubt if you'll need that level of help.

Learning German wont be a big help either. As u said, its a diff dialect, so, everything feels/sounds different. I had a German friend, who had to acclimatize for 2 months before he could handle meetings with local customer guys.

And, language courses can be costly. Try your employer to sponsor for you. Lot of companies do that.

5. Thanks :)

hope to help.
